So Long, BumbleBars

Dear Friends,

Hello! This is Liz and Glenn Ward, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Creative Officer, Owners of BumbleBar.

First of all, we want to thank you for buying BumbleBars throughout the years. We’ve been making our revered bars for 27 years now. Without our satisfied customers, we would not be where we are today. I have immense gratitude for all of the kudos and support you’ve given us!

As we move forward with new projects, we have decided to discontinue the BumbleBar line of nutrition bars. We know how much you’ve loved these chewy, gluten-free, and organic bars chock full of sesame seeds. We’ll miss them too!

Our sister company is called Clean Copack. This is where we manufacture nutrition bars for other brands. We love to mentor young, emerging brands by providing them with research & development, manufacturing their bars, and providing the packaging and labeling required. Helping and servicing other brands is the direction our energy and resources are currently supporting.

If you wish to order BumbleBar products one more time before they’re gone, please go to our BumbleBar website Products page. You will see what’s available there and can place your order accordingly.

We may decide to resurrect the BumbleBar brand sometime in the future. If so, you will be the first to know!

Once again, thanks for buying and enjoying our BumbleBars. Our utmost gratitude goes to you, our loyal BumbleBar customers.

Best Regards,
Liz and Glenn Ward

5 Reasons You Should Be Eating Almonds

What do you look for in the perfect snack? Filling, tasty, crunchy, healthy, versatile? almonds hit all those markers beautifully. And yes, almonds. There are a few reasons to eat almonds over conventional almonds, given the chemicals that may be used on non- almonds. Plus, there are lots of health perks and delicious reasons to snack on almonds and include them in your baking and cooking.

We use roasted almonds in a few of our BumbleBars: Mixed Nut Medley, Amazing Almond, and Chai Almond (the last two being on sale this month!). Our Apple Crisp and Brownie Batter JunoBars both contain creamy, almond butter.

Let’s jump into five reasons to eat almonds:

COVID-19: BumbleBar’s Response & What You Can Do To Help Others

BumbleBar has always been committed to health and well-being by providing delicious, healthy snacks. In the current situation we all now face, we at BumbleBar know how important it is to take extra steps to keep ourselves and others safe and healthy.

What BumbleBar Is Doing

As a food manufacturer, we are considered an “essential business.” We remain in operation. We have added additional procedures to protect both our employees and our community from COVID-19.

At this time, we have closed our doors to all visitors. Our employees are required to stay home if they feel sick. We split our employee shifts to reduce the number of people in the building at a time and created a buffer between the shifts so they don’t come in contact with each other. [Read more…]

Ingredient Highlight: Health Benefits of Cardamom and Ways to Use It

The intricate flavor of cardamom comes through as citrusy, spicy, piney, minty, and herbal all at once. Its robust complexity makes it perfect for both sweet and savory foods.

If you live in the United States, you might be the most familiar with cardamom in chai lattes. Here at BumbleBar, we blend cardamom with turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon for our Chai Almond BumbleBar (now on sale for just $1 per bar!). The warmth of the sesame seeds and the sweet buttery flavor of the almonds pairs perfectly with the slightly spicy medley—if we, ahem, do say so ourselves. [Read more…]

It’s Women’s History Month, and at BumbleBar, we are celebrating woman-owned businesses!

Fight Climate Change by Reducing Food Waste

The statistics on food waste are staggering. An estimated one-third of food in the world is lost or wasted, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Every year, 133 billion pounds of food is wasted in the United States. That’s more than $161 billion worth. Each person wastes as much as 20 pounds of food per month, according to the FDA.

Think of the environmental impact created by that magnitude of food waste.

Stop Eating So Much Sugar! I Did, So Can You

One of the best things I have done for my body lately is reducing my sugar intake. When I first decided to do this, it seemed scary and overwhelmingly restrictive. Desserts are my jam. The good news I discovered: I don’t have to give them up.

By no means have I achieved a completely low sugar diet by now, but I’m certainly much better than I was before.

If you’re thinking about reducing sugar in your diet, too, here are 8 tips and things I learned so far that might help you on your journey. Let’s start with the benefits so you feel encouraged:

Three of Our Favorite Fair Trade Chocolate Companies

It is no secret to anyone that knows me. I have an insatiable appetite for chocolate. To me, chocolate is essential. It’s the utmost pleasurable gastronomic experience, and I feel it should be indulged in daily in some form, even if only a teensy bit.

The choices for purchasing chocolate are vast, as far as companies go. But the big name candy companies lack not only in flavor and high-quality ingredients, but also in ethics. Child labor is a serious issue on cocoa farms, as well as farmers being underpaid by companies for their goods.

I see chocolate as a blessing and a luxury. There’s no reason why something that tastes so good should harm anyone.

Check out this Amazing Vegan GF Lemon Date Bar Recipe!

I have been making these gluten-free, plant-based treats for years. Kids & adults love them equally. One of my favorite cookbook series is the Moosewood Collective. The recipe is a riff on a lemon date bar from Moosewood Cooks At Home, which I highly recommend. I recently found out about a great source for used vegan cookbooks, Thriftbooks. Many books are $4 and below. Shipping is free after $10 in books. The site is a little dangerous for someone who is obsessed with books like me. 🙂 -Liz
