Celebrating Our Amazing Workplace Diversity At BumbleBar

Throughout the last twenty years at BumbleBar, our workplace culture has become more and more diverse. And we love it! There are many benefits to having a diverse work environment, including elimination of discrimination through promotion of a safe work culture.

Our team consists of women and men of all ages and backgrounds!
Currently, we’re working on revamping our training videos so that BumbleBar’s human resources team may provide them in multiple languages.

We continue to experience high employee morale resulting from workforce diversity.

According to Rob McInness of Diversity World, top talent is no longer (but really, was it ever?) represented by a homogeneous group, but by a group representing people from many different backgrounds and life experiences. Top recruiters know that true talent lies in passion and experience, not gender, age, or ethnicity. Encouraging a diverse facility steadily builds synergy throughout the production team and improves communication skills!

“Workplace diversity also increases productivity. Diversity and inclusion bring different talents together, working towards a common goal by using a unique set of skills. Igniting employee and company loyalty as well as improving retention and productivity, workplace diversity is, of course, beneficial. With so many different and diverse minds coming together many more solutions will arise as every individual brings in their way of thinking, operating and solving problems and decision making,” according to Sahar’s Consulting.

Do you have diversity in the workplace? What benefits does it bring to your company? We would like to know! Share your story in the comments below or send us an email here.

What’s Your Personality Type?

Personality is everything.” We’ve all heard that before! There are 16 different personalities, according to Katharine Cook Briggs and her studies. So, what’s your personality type? Take the quick 10-minute quiz to find out! Members of the BumbleBar team completed the short questionnaire, and this is what we discovered:

BumbleBar CEO, Liz, is an INTP. The INTP personality type is fairly rare, making up only three percent of the population, which is definitely a good thing for them, as there’s nothing they’d be more unhappy about than being “common”. Usually known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor, INTPs have been responsible for many scientific discoveries throughout history. • Great Analysts and Abstract Thinkers – People with the INTP personality type view the world as a big, complex machine, and recognize that as with any machine, all parts are interrelated. INTPs excel in analyzing these connections, seeing how seemingly unrelated factors tie in with each other in ways that bewilder most other personality types.
  • Imaginative and Original – These connections are the product of an unrelenting imagination – INTPs’ ideas may seem counter-intuitive at a glance, and may never even see the light of day, but they will always prove remarkable innovations.
  • Open-Minded – INTPs couldn’t make these connections if they thought they knew it all – they are highly receptive to alternate theories, so long as they’re supported by logic and facts. In more subjective matters like social norms and traditions, INTPs are usually fairly liberal, with a “none of my business” sort of attitude – peoples’ ideas are what matter.
  • Objective – INTPs’ analysis, creativity and open-mindedness aren’t the tools of some quest for ideology or emotional validation.
  • Honest and Straightforward – To know one thing and say another would be terribly disingenuous – INTPs don’t often go around intentionally hurting feelings, but they believe that the truth is the most important factor, and they expect that to be appreciated and reciprocated.
Aimee, our Head of Customer Relations is an INFJ, also called The Advocate personality! The quiz describes her as insightful, inspiring, decisive, and passionate. No wonder Aimee provides such excellent customer service! Read more below.
  • Insightful – Seeing through dishonesty and disingenuous motives, INFJs step past manipulation and sales tactics and into a more honest discussion. INFJs see how people and events are connected and are able to use that insight to get to the heart of the matter.
  • Inspiring and Convincing – INFJs can even be astonishingly good orators, speaking with warmth and passion, if they are proud of what they are speaking for.
  • Decisive – Their creativity, insight, and inspiration are able to have a real impact on the world, as INFJs are able to follow through on their ideas with conviction, willpower, and the planning necessary to see complex projects through to the end.
  • Determined and Passionate – When INFJs come to believe that something is important, they pursue that goal with a conviction and energy that can catch even their friends and loved ones off guard.
Our Operations Manager, Jim is an ISTJ, also referred to as The Logistician. His defining characteristics are integrity, practical logic, and tireless dedication. People, like Jim, with the ISTJ personality type, enjoy taking responsibility and take pride in the work they do – when working towards a goal, ISTJs hold back none of their time and energy completing each relevant task with accuracy and patience. This couldn’t be more accurate in Jim’s case! Read more about his strengths below.screen-shot-2016-12-06-at-10-33-20-am
  • Honest and Direct – Integrity is the heart of the ISTJ personality type.  Strong-willed and Dutiful – ISTJs embody that integrity in their actions too, working hard and staying focused on their goals. Patient and determined, people with the ISTJ personality type meet their obligations, period.
  • Very Responsible – ISTJs’ word is a promise, and a promise means everything.
  • Calm and Practical – None of their promises would mean much if ISTJs lost their tempers and broke down at every sign of hardship – they keep their feet on the ground and make clear rational decisions.
  • Create and Enforce Order – The primary goal of any ISTJ is to be effective in what they’ve chosen to do, and they believe that this is accomplished best when everyone involved knows exactly what is going on and why.
Our visual communication designer, Hannah is an INFP, also known as The Mediator. INFP personalities are true idealists, always looking for the hint of good in even the worst of people and events, searching for ways to make things better. While they may be perceived as calm, reserved, or even shy, INFPs have an inner flame and passion that can truly shine. INFP’s are also very creative! Read more below.screen-shot-2016-12-06-at-10-33-09-am
  • Idealistic – INFPs’ friends and loved ones will come to admire and depend on them for their optimism. Their unshaken belief that all people are inherently good, perhaps simply misunderstood, lends itself to an incredibly resilient attitude in the face of hardship.
  • Seek and Value Harmony – People with the INFP personality type have no interest in having power over others and don’t much care for domineering attitudes at all.
  • Open-Minded and Flexible – A live-and-let-live attitude comes naturally to INFPs, and they dislike being constrained by rules.
  • Very Creative – INFPs combine their intuitive nature with their open-mindedness to allow them to see things from unconventional perspectives.
  • Dedicated and Hard-Working – While others focusing on the challenges of the moment may give up when the going gets tough, INFPs have the benefit of their far-reaching vision to help them through.
BumbleBar’s Chief Operating Officer, Glenn, is an ENFP.  Glenn and other ENFP’s are true free spirits. They are often the life of the party, but unlike Explorers, they are less interested in the sheer excitement and pleasure of the moment than they are in enjoying the social and emotional connections they make with others. Read more about our COO’s personality below.screen-shot-2016-12-06-at-10-47-17-am
  • Curious – When it comes to new ideas, ENFPs aren’t interested in brooding – they want to go out and experience things, and don’t hesitate to step out of their comfort zones to do so. ENFPs are imaginative and open-minded, seeing all things as part of a big, mysterious puzzle called life.
  • Observant – ENFPs believe that there are no irrelevant actions, that every shift in sentiment, every move and every idea is part of something bigger. To satisfy their curiosity, ENFPs try to notice all of these things, and to never miss a moment.
  • Energetic and Enthusiastic – As they observe, forming new connections and ideas, ENFPs won’t hold their tongues – they’re excited about their findings, and share them with anyone who’ll listen.
  • Excellent Communicators – It’s a good thing that ENFPs have such strong people skills, or they’d never express these ideas. ENFPs enjoy both small talk and deep, meaningful conversations, which are just two sides of the same coin for them, and are adept at steering conversations towards their desired subjects in ways that feel completely natural and unforced.
  • Very Popular and Friendly – All this adaptability and spontaneity comes together to form a person who is approachable, interesting and exciting, with a cooperative and altruistic spirit and friendly, empathetic disposition. ENFPs get along with pretty much everyone, and their circles of friends stretch far and wide.

So, what personality type are you? Do you agree or disagree with the quiz? We would love to find out! Tell us more about your personality type in the comments below.

BumbleBar’s Crazy Fun Tattooed Team

Looking around the production floor and facility office, we noticed a trend; almost all of our BumbleBar team members have tattoos! The large number of tattooed employees may simply be a testament to the modern times, but we’re convinced it’s because our company is overflowing with creative, unconventional, and innovative minds! We asked staff to share their personal tattoo stories with us – let’s see what they had to say!

Aimee: I will never forget my first big concert: The Cure at the San Diego Sports Arena in 1987. My dad allowed me to go with my friend Chrissy and her older sister, which made me feel independent and grown up. The tattoo is a concert ticket with Robert Smith superimposed. It reminds me of how good it feels to watch live music.

Hannah: My mom and I had our tattoos done together – they’re exactly the same and we both have them on our left arm. The lotus represents rebirth or the unfolding of spiritual enlightenment. In Buddhism, the lotus is known to be associated with purity and spiritual awakening. The plant grows in muddy, murky waters, and once it’s reached the surface, it blooms into a beautiful, clean flower. To me personally, this represents emerging from a dark place in order to find spiritual enlightenment and also that beauty can be found in even the most ‘muddy’ of places.

Alaina: I got this tattoo in Spain when I was studying abroad. The artist didn’t speak any English and was very confused when I told him I wanted a Dutch phrase on my arm. The phrase is ‘Geen Man Overboard”, which loosely translates to “you’ve survived the storm, and at the end of the day life is good”. It’s a reminder to keep my head up and not let the little things get me down because at the end of the day I am alive and well and that’s what counts.

3 Years With BumbleBar

Dianne wakes up every morning around 4:00 AM and prepares for her 10+ hour shift with determination in her eyes and pep in her step. She never complains, is always on time, and is the first to volunteer for extra shifts. BumbleBar’s lead baker Dianne is celebrating her 3 year employee anniversary and we couldn’t be more appreciative of the work that she’s done and continuing to do. We’ve asked her to sit down with us and answer a few questions about her 3-year journey and counting. Let’s see what she had to say!

Hannah (Interviewer): What’s been your favorite product to bake throughout your years at BumbleBar?

Dianne: My favorite product to bake is our paleo co-packing products!

Hannah: Why do you enjoy working here?

Dianne: I like working for Liz. She’s enthusiastic about life and cares about her employees, which makes work enjoyable.

Hannah: How have you seen BumbleBar change over the last 3 years?

Dianne: Well, when I first started working here there were only 5 production employees and we worked in a much smaller space. Now, I work alongside 20 other people and we’re located inside a huge facility.
Thank you, Dianne, for all you’ve done and are continuing to do for BumbleBar!

Introducing Office Assistant, Alaina!

Hello! My name is Alaina. I recently joined the BumbleBar team as an Office Assistant. I’m currently a senior at Gonzaga University studying Political Science and English. With any luck, I’ll be going to law school within the next couple years. I was born in Omaha, raised in Tacoma, but consider Spokane to be my home.
When I’m not working at BumbleBar, I’m most likely busy with schoolwork. When I’m not doing either of those, I try to spend some quality time with friends, family, Netflix, or all of the above. I also love to travel. Last year, I had the awesome opportunity of interning at a lobbying firm in Brussels, Belgium, where I spent a lot of time researching mutual insurance companies and drafting proposals for clients. I took classes at Vesalius College in international politics, Belgian history, and French. My French is pretty rough, but if you’re in need of any Spanish translations, I’ve got you covered.
Despite my jet-setting experiences, I’m happy to be back in Spokane and beginning a new adventure with BumbleBar. I’m excited to be part of a team that shares my passion for social justice, and it definitely doesn’t hurt that I’m surrounded by yummy healthy snacks.

5 Must-Have Online Tools for Every Small Business

Like any office, factory or agency, there’s a LOT of work to be done here at BumbleBar! In order to accomplish everything, our small team relies on several amazing online tools to get the job done. Let’s take a look at our favorite resources, who uses them, and why!

Grammarly: We use Grammarly in our office quite frequently. Grammarly is a free online tool that spellchecks and detects grammatical issues within your writing. If you’re a student, copywriter, or anyone who spends a great deal of time typing we highly suggest using Grammarly.

Asana: Our team heavily relies on Asana to assign jobs, keep track of tasks, communicate with clients, and much more. This is an outstanding web-based tool for any business, small or large. The interface is really very lovely and user-friendly. Bonus – they even have an app for your phone! Personally, my favorite feature of Asana is the flying unicorn that soars across your monitor if you’ve completed multiple tasks throughout the day.

Podio: Podio is an equally great tool that’s just as beautiful and even more versatile than Asana. We use Podio to create apps, web forms, and store information. For example, we created a content planning app in Podio so that we could keep track of our blog posts and newsletter updates. With so many awesome features, we really recommend taking a look at all Podio has to offer here.

JumpLead: For those of you who have your own website and are interested in discovering more about your site visitors, we suggest learning more about JumpLead. You can chat with your website visitors, capture them as leads and hopefully… convert them to customers!

BuzzSumo: We use BuzzSumo to find the most interesting articles and talked about news stories, that fit with our interests and values as a company. We love sharing positive, uplifting stories with you – especially on Facebook and Twitter. (Psst…if you don’t follow us, you probably should! ;-] ) This online tool also provides a daily competitor analysis and influencer content alerts, keeping us up to date!

Meet Aimee!

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 4.35.37 PMHi there! My Name is Aimee and I recently joined the BumbleBar team as their Office Guru. I’ll be writing lots of the blog posts you’ll be reading in the future, so I’m sure we’ll get to know each other pretty well. I’m excited to be working with a local company that makes a healthy, wonderful products that taste great. My favorite bar is the Classic Cashew BumbleBar. It’s a great bonus that the bars are gluten free, vegan and a great source of natural energy.

I came to BumbleBar after a long career in grocery, mostly at Trader Joe’s. I was part of an amazing group of people who opened up the first four stores in New York City. We did everything from deciding where the shelving was going to be, to hiring and training hundreds of people at once. It was a thrilling time to be with the company and I made a lot of lifetime friends while also bringing delicious and well-priced food to a city that needed it.

Optimized-IMG_6400I love food, travel, live music, and my orange tabby, Opie. Recently, I went on a vacation to New York to attend a comedy festival at the UCB Theater. I also saw An American In Paris, Fun Home, Bright Star and Shuffle Along on Broadway. In between shows, I visited the Guggenheim and the Met, ate lots of great stuff like Dough doughnuts and Katz’s, and walked my legs off. Wait, didn’t I just say that I used to live in Brooklyn? I did. I visit once a year to see my friends and do all of the great things you can’t do anywhere else.

I’m happy to be here in Spokane, where I can relax by taking long walks in Manito Park while watching the rest of the world play Pokemon Go. Just a heads up: There are A LOT of Pokemon and Pokestops in Spokane. Manito
